Capacity Building Programme for National Air Quality Managers

Strengthening capacity of member states to respond to air pollution issues is one of the areas of action in the UN Environment Assembly resolutions on air quality. After participating in this training workshop, the participants will have gained an updated knowledge on health impacts of air pollution and understand basic concepts of epidemiology to design studies to determine health impact of air pollution, and an improved understanding of the role and importance of air pollution communication in air quality management and be better equipped in engaging stakeholders through communication strategies.

Consultation Meeting on Regional Policy/ Governmental Meetings on Urban Air Quality in Asia

Governmental Meetings on Urban Air Quality in Asia are held every two years to harmonize approaches between Asian countries in tackling urban air pollution and related areas. UN Environment and the Clean Air Asia Center co-organize these meetings, which are an integral part of the Better Air Quality (BAQ) conferences.

Estimating the Benefits of Improving Air Quality: Intro to the BenMAP-CE Tool

USEPA will introduce interested participants to BenMAP-CE, an open-source tool that quantifies the health impacts and economic value of air quality changes. Regional Policy Dialogue on Fuel Economy in Asia &
2nd APEC Workshop on Policy Dialogue on Fuel Economy Platform

GIZ, UN Environment, Clean Air Asia, and the National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC) under the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) of Thailand have been working together to promote fuel economy in Asia-Pacific. The APEC Policy Partnership on Science, Technology and Innovation (PPSTI) Project 03 2017A aims to support fuel economy policy in the APEC region with this 2nd APEC Workshop on Policy Dialogue on Fuel Economy Platform. UN Environment, FIA Foundation and other partners at the Global Fuel Economy Initiative have been supporting many Asia-Pacific countries in the region and cooperating with various partners. GIZ has been supporting the ASEAN in developing fuel economy roadmap and promoting fuel economy in Southeast Asia. This session aims to advance the development of ambitious fuel economy measures by regional knowledge exchange on successful policies and ongoing and new initiatives.

Clean Air Asia, Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP), and Sonoma Technology, together with the University of Malaysia Sarawak, will hold the Urban Walkability and Air Sensing Tour which will provide an opportunity for participants to experiment with AirBeam, a low-cost portable air quality sensor and the Pedestrian First Walkability tool. Both tools may empower citizens and help policy makers build vibrant and walkable communities.

Together with Toyota, GIZ has developed a digital tool to crowdsource real-world fuel economy data from drivers and to promote transparency on vehicle fuel consumption to policymakers and consumers. The tool consists of a chatbot and a web platform.
